Terms of Use
Last updated: 5 April 2026
1. Acceptance
By accessing StreetSignal at streetsignal.co.za, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.
2. Nature of the service
StreetSignal provides neighbourhood intelligence derived from publicly available municipal, government, and statistical datasets. The platform is intended to assist with location research and decision-making. It is not a substitute for professional legal, financial, property valuation, or insurance advice.
3. Accuracy and limitations
Data displayed on StreetSignal reflects the source datasets at the time of ingestion. We make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy but cannot guarantee that all data is current, complete, or free from error. In particular:
- Crime statistics reflect SAPS quarterly reporting periods, not real-time incidents.
- Property valuations reflect the City of Cape Town General Valuation Roll and may not reflect current market values.
- Household survey data reflects the 2024 CCT Household Survey sample and is subject to sampling error.
- Safety indices are per-capita measures relative to Cape Town precincts and should not be interpreted as absolute risk assessments.
4. No professional advice
Nothing on StreetSignal constitutes professional property valuation, financial advice, legal advice, insurance underwriting, or security consultation. Always engage qualified professionals for decisions of material consequence.
5. Intellectual property
The StreetSignal platform, including its methodology, computed indices, crosswalk logic, and visual presentation, is proprietary. Underlying source data remains the property of the respective data providers (SAPS, City of Cape Town, Stats SA, DBE) and is used under the applicable open data licences. You may not scrape, republish, or commercially exploit StreetSignal content without written permission.
6. Prohibited uses
You must not use StreetSignal data, scores, or indices for any of the following purposes:
- Insurance pricing decisions or underwriting based on suburb-level scores
- Credit scoring or lending decisions based on residential address
- Tenant screening or rental discrimination
- Employment discrimination based on a candidate's residential location
- Any form of geographic discrimination prohibited under the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act (PEPUDA)
StreetSignal provides neighbourhood intelligence for residential and investment research. It is not designed, intended, or licensed for use in automated decision-making that affects individuals' access to housing, insurance, credit, or employment.
7. API usage
StreetSignal provides a static API at /api/v1/ for programmatic access to suburb-level data. The following terms apply:
- The API is provided free of charge for non-commercial use.
- Commercial or high-volume access requires prior arrangement. Please register your interest to discuss access.
- Attribution is required when using API data. Use the following format: "Data from StreetSignal (streetsignal.co.za)".
- There is no guarantee of uptime or data freshness. Data is regenerated with each site build and may change without notice.
- The prohibited uses listed in section 6 apply equally to data accessed via the API, including insurance pricing, credit scoring, tenant screening, and employment discrimination.
- StreetSignal reserves the right to restrict or revoke API access at any time and for any reason.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, StreetSignal and its operators accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from reliance on information published on this platform. This limitation does not exclude liability for fraud, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under South African law.
9. Age restriction
StreetSignal is a general-purpose information resource. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. There is no age restriction on viewing publicly available neighbourhood data, but users under 18 should use this platform with the guidance of a parent or guardian.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the Western Cape Division of the High Court of South Africa.
11. Changes
We may update these terms as the platform evolves. Continued use after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
